- Rot-N/Rot cipher is a simple character substitution based on a shift/rotation of N letters in an alphabet. One letter is replaced by another (always the same) that is located further (exactly N letters further) in the alphabet. This is the basis of the famous Caesar code and its many variants modifying the shift.
- Encryption with Vigenere uses a key made of letters (and an alphabet). There are several ways to achieve the ciphering manually: Vigenere Ciphering by adding letters. In order to cipher a text, take the first letter of the message and the first letter of the key, add their value (letters have a value depending on their rank in the alphabet, starting with 0).
Cryptogram Solver - Rumkin. This tool solves monoalphabetic substitution ciphers, also known as cryptograms. These are ciphers where each letter of the clear text is replaced by a corresponding letter of the cipher alphabet. As an example here is an English cryptogram this tool can solve.
The Autokey Cipher encryption process is:
1) The 'key' of the automatic key password is a keyword, such as 'FORMATATION';
2) Autokey password uses the following table to encrypt the plain text;
3) To encrypt the message, place the key above the plain text, and after writing all the key characters, start to write the plain text as the key:
Key: FORTIFICATIONILIKEAUTOM
Original: ILIKEAUTOMATICKEYCIPHER
4) The letter 'I' to be coded is found in the first column of the table. Then, we move along the 'I' row of the table until we reach the column with 'F' at the top ('F' is the key letter of the first 'D'), and the intersection is our ciphertext character 'N' ; Therefore, the ciphertext of the above plaintext is:
Key: FORTIFICATIONILIKEAUTOM
Original: ILIKEAUTOMATICKEYCIPHER
Ciphertext: NZZDMFCVOFIHVKVMIGIJASD

Crypto Cracker is a tool that can be used to crack Word Ciphers. A Word Cipher, also known as a Cryptogram or Cryptoquote, is a puzzle where one letter in the puzzle is substituted with another. For example, the cipher:
a | r | e |
y | c | r |
Cipher Solver Tool
a | n | d |
y | z | u |
In the above example a 'e' is replaced with a 'c'. Therefore, all e's must be replaced by a 'c'. The puzzle is solved by recognizing letter patterns in a word or words and successively substituting letters until the solution is reached.
Cipher Solver Tool
Type a word cipher into the Crypto Cracker text box and the Crypto Cracker will attempt to crack the cipher. The Crypto Cracker will return its best guess after the alloted time. Word Ciphers may have more than one solution. The Cryptogram Solver will return the first 5 or 10 solutions it can find.
Common sources of ciphers are the newspaper and puzzle magazines. Many ciphers, such as the Cryptogram found in most newspapers, will not use a letter to represent itself. If you know this to be the case, the option 'Letter Can Represent Itself' should be unchecked. Crypto Cracker will only find solutions where no letter is used to substitute itself.
The Crypto Cracker has an extensive dictionary. Entries are weighted based on the frequency that they occur in common language usage. Single letter words that are preceded by and followed by a period are considered to be initials. Crypto Cracker makes no attempt to actually figure out initials. Instead, it substitutes the first unused letters. If 'Show All Possible Initials' is checked, the Crypto Cracker will generate answers using all permutations of unused letters.
