Trent Reznor has offered a multitrack version of “Only” from the album With Teeth for download from the Nine Inch Nails Web site. Like the previously released “The Hand That Feeds,” you can remix “Only” yourself using Apple’s GarageBand and other music-making software. The music file requires you to register before you can download it.

4) Add Apple loops and effects to a project 5) Saving a project or sending it to iTunes 1) Create a new project To start working in GarageBand and create a new project open GarageBand by clicking on the guitar icon in the bottom of the screen. Once you click the icon, a window called the “Project hooser” will open. Luckily, GarageBand has several options when it comes to bouncing your project. Whatever option you choose, you’ll find it in the ‘Share’ menu in GarageBand’s toolbar at the top of your screen. There you have it, that’s all of the ways you can share your GarageBand projects. Once you’ve named your project, click on Save in the bottom-right corner. This will save your GarageBand project out to the Desktop of the computer you’re working on. Once your project is saved, you will need to quit out of GarageBand to avoid any errors. Now, GarageBand on the Mac can create an iPad-compatible version of the project and send it to the iPad via iCloud. This special project will show up automatically in your iPad and iPhone’s.
This is Reznor’s second effort to allow the general public to reinterpret his music their way since With Teeth was released. Earlier this year Reznor offered a GarageBand version of the album’s first single, “The Hand That Feeds.”
On his Web site, Reznor called the earlier effort “a resounding success,” and added “I’ve enjoyed and cringed at what you’ve done with my song. Thank you (I think).”
This time around, Reznor isn’t limiting the multitrack version of “Only” to GarageBand. He’s created Mac and Windows-compatible versions that work using Ableton Live and Digidesign Pro Tools. Windows users with Sony Acid can also download a version. The GarageBand version can be used with Apple’s pro-level music creation software Logic as well.

Reznor noted that “Only” and all the other music on With Teeth was originally created using Pro Tools. As a result, the Pro Tools version of the file is a bit different in that it “doesn’t start out ‘remixed’ in any way.” The Pro Tools version also includes some alternate parts and takes that were not included in the final version.
How To Save Garageband Project
“Again, there is no agenda here other than for you to explore, experiment, and have fun with it,” wrote Reznor. “Depending on how this goes we may construct a more formal community for remix postings and/or possibly some sort of ‘official’ endorsement by means of an EP or something.”
