How to remove both duplicate rows in Excel?

Sometimes, you may merge two lists from two files into one column of the worksheet, after merging the data, there are some duplicate values are displayed. But, now, you would like to remove both the duplicate records which including the original one, and leave only the unique values that do not have any duplicates at all as following screenshot shown. 1. Step 2: On the Excel ribbon, Click Data and then select Remove Duplicates. Step 3: You will now see the Remove Duplicates Wizard. To remove duplicate values, you must select one or more columns that contain duplicate values. In order to do that, you have two buttons. The first button is ‘Select All’ and the other button is ‘Unselect All’.
2. Columns: Required: Variant: Array of indexes of the columns that contain the duplicate information. Header: Optional: XlYesNoGuess: Specifies whether the first row contains header information. XlNo is the default value; specify xlGuess if you want Excel to attempt to determine the header.
3. Remove duplicates with the Remove Duplicates command. Removing duplicates in Excel is often just three or four clicks away. The Data tab carries a Remove Duplicates icon right on the ribbon. To use this command: Click anywhere within the dataset where you’d like Excel to delete duplicates.

This is where removing duplicates in excel comes in handy. Step 1 – Select the column B, and in the data tab, under the data tools section click on remove duplicates, Step 2 – A dialog box appears It asks for us if we want to remove duplicates from the current selection or we want to expand our selection. As column A has just one type of. To remove duplicates based on one or more columns, right-click on the specific column header. You can select more than one column using the CTRL button and remove the duplicates accordingly. To remove the duplicate records based on the entire table, click on the button present on the top left corner of the data preview.

In Excel, you can create a formula in a helper column, and then filter by this new column to filter all the duplicate values and delete them at once. Please do with following steps:

1. Enter this formula: =IF(COUNTIF($A$1:$A$14,A1)=1,0,1) into a blank cell besides your data, B1 for example, and then press Enter key.

Note: in the formula, $A$1:$A$14is the original data range you want to remove the duplicates, and A1 is the first cell in your data range. You can change them to your need.

2. Then select cell B1, and drag the fill handle down to the cells that you want to contain this formula, and you can see all the duplicate cells are displayed as the number 1, and unique cells are displayed as the number 0, see screenshot:

3. And then click Data > Filter, and a drop down list button appears in cell B1, see screenshot:

4. Then click the drop down list button and only check the number 1 under the Select All option, see screenshot:

5. And all the duplicate values are filtered out, see screenshot:

6. (1.)If you want to remove the values, you can just press the Delete key to remove all of them, and only leave the unique values as following screenshot shown:

(2.) If you want to remove the entire duplicate rows, select the visible entire rows, and choose Delete Row from the right clicking menu, and only the unique rows are kept. See screenshots:

7. After removing the duplicate records, you can delete the contents in column B as you need.

Note: If there is a unique value in your first row, after filtering, it will be locate there as well, when you delete the filtered duplicate values, please skip this row.

1. Select the data range that you want to use.

To remove the non-duplicate rows, you need to create a formula helper column first, and then filter all the unique values based on your helper column, finally, delete the filtered unique values. Please do as follows:

1. Enter this formula =COUNTIF($A$2:$A$15, A2)=1 into a blank cell besides your data, such as cell B2, see screenshot:

Tip: In the above formula, A2:A15 is the column range you want to remove the unique values, you can change it as you need.

2. And then drag the fill handle down to the cells that you want to apply this formula, False indicates the duplicate values and True stands for the unique values, see screenshot:

3. Then select the data range and click Data > Filter, see screenshot:

4. Click the filter drop-down in the new helper column B and uncheck FALSE option to just show the unique values of column A, and then click OK button, see screenshot:

5. After showing only the non-duplicate records, select the entire rows of these visible rows, and then click Home > Find & Select > Go To Special, in the Go To Special dialog box, select Visible cells only option, see screenshots:

6. Then click OK to close the dialog box, and only the visible rows have been selected as following screenshot shown:

7. And then you need to remove these visible rows only, put the cursor at the selected rows, right click to choose Delete Row from the context menu, see screenshot:

8. And only the visible rows are deleted at once, then you need to cancel the filter by clicking Data > Filter again to disable the Filter function, and you can see all the unique value rows have been removed, and only leave the duplicate records, see screenshot:

9. At last, you can delete the content of helper column B as you want.
